IBRAVIN - Promoting the Development of the Viticulture Sector

The Brazilian Wine Institute is an association free of any lucrative finalities, the forum where dialogs take place in the search of a harmonious development of the productive chain, representatives of the grave producers, wine industry, cooperatives, Government of the State, also with the participation of several teaching and researching entities, as well as Associations of Professionals connected with the sector.

The actions to be implemented by the Institute have been defined by its Deliberative Council, integrated by representatives of the Brazilian Enology Association (ABE), Gaucha Association of Wine-producers (Agavi), Interstate Commission of the Grape, Federation of the Rio Grande do Sul Wine-producing Cooperatives (Fecovinho) and Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. With the function of making feasible the execution of the interesting projects for the sector, the functional structure has been installed in Bento Gonçalves.

The Trajectory

Articulations that reached the highest points with the creation of the Brazilian Wine Institute in the decade of 1980. An important chapter of that trajectory has been written down in 1993, when the entities of the productive chain and the Rio Grande do Sul State Government instituted the Viticultural Sector´s Restructuring and Development Program. In 1995, the Stat of Rio Grande do Sul´s Legislative Parliament installed a special working instance, the mixed Sub commission of the Viticulture. Right away the Sectorial Chamber of the Grape and the Wine comes to life. The debate evolved until the Ibravin Foundation Act has been signed on October 3, 1997, being installed there after on January 10, 1998. At present the Institute enjoys together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Supply (Mapa) grants the condition of a representative instance of the national Viticulture before the International Wine Organization (OIV).

Ibravin´s Mission

To order and to promote in a participative form, the Brazilian Viticulture by means of fixing objectives, estabilishing of strategies and the execution of actions aimed at its strengthening, making them become competitive and sustainable.
To search for the commitment of the participants from the productive chain of grape and wine, among themselves, and with the several governmental levels, in the execution of the Brazilian Viticultural policy.

Vision

To be the Brazilian Viticulture´s representative entity, nationally and internationally recognized, in its managing role to fix and disseminate the sector´s policy, aimed at a sustainable development and the valorization of the productive chain.

Actions to Show the Way to the Process

Several projects make up the viticulture´s development plan coordinated by the Brazilian Wine Institute, the actions of which are being conceived in the periodical meetings between the representatives of the grape and wine productive chain and the State of Rio Grande do Sul´s Government, by means of its Secretary of Agriculture and Suplly. Thereafter, the proposals are evaluated by Ibravin´s Deliberating Council. If approved, they are submitted to a new and definitive analysis by the Fundovitis Council, that determines its realization or not, as well as the volume of resources to be applied to. Then the directives are executed by researching institutions and consultants hired or by the Ibravin itself. Its performance is followed by four internal Ibravin commissions (in the areas of Economy and Market, Enology, Legislation and Viticulture) integrated by members of the Institution´s Consultive Council.
