Six Brazilian wineries take part in Anuga in Germany ( 2009-10-06 )
 
Aurora, Boscato, Casa Valduga, Irmãos Basso, Miolo and Salton will participate in the booth of the Wines From Brazil Project, a partnership between Ibravin, Apex-Brazil, Sedai and Sebrae-RS.
Six Brazilian wineries will take part in the International Trade Fair for Food in Germany (Anuga) which will be held from October 10 to 14, in Cologne, Germany, the second largest importer of wines in the European Union and the 4th country in wine consumption, totaling for 24.3 liters per capita a year.

Aurora, Boscato, Casa Valduga, Irmãos Basso, Miolo and Salton will participate in the booth of the Sectorial Project Wines from Brazil (WFB), a partnership between the Brazilian Wine Institute (Ibravin) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brazil). Sedai and Sebrae-RS also support the participation of companies from Rio Grande do Sul in the collective stand. This will be the third participation in a row of Wines From Brazil in Anuga, the world’s largest and most important trade fair for food and beverage, known as an event that includes "10 trade shows under one roof".

Persistence has shown practical results: from 2007 to 2008, Germany went from 7th to 5th main destination of Brazilian wine and sparkling wine. The volume growth totaled 120%, with sales going from 123 thousand liters in 2007 to 271.1 liters last year. The financial return has also been significant, with an increase of 81.6%. Brazilian exports accounted for US$ 248.2 thousand in 2007 and US$ 450.9 thousand in 2008. “There is a trend for a continuous growth” points out Paviani.

The first half of this year saw exports hit 150.8 thousand liters of wine - 55.6% of the total sold last year. Sales in the first six months of 2009 reached US$ 186.3 thousand. The constant presence over the last five years in ProWein, one of the major wine trade fairs in Europe, held in Düsseldorf, demonstrates the ongoing investment of the Brazilian wineries in Germany. At least eight companies - Miolo, Aurora, Casa Valduga, Garibaldi, Boscato, Salton, Rio Sol and Cordilheira de Santanna - already export to Germany and other two - Lovara and Lidio Carraro - have importers in the country.

According to Paviani, of all alcoholic beverages, the consumption of wine was the only one that has not fallen in recent years in the country traditionally known as the cradle of beer-brewing. "Brazilian wine is authentic, young and focused on people who look for a more joyful way of life and are eager to have new experiences," he says.
This is exactly what the new institutional campaign of Brazilian wines will showcase in Anuga. Our aim is to supply information about Brazilian wines in the foreign market. “We want to start the process to construct an image and to position Brazilian wines in the world” explains Paviani.

In general terms, Brazilian wine can be defined as light, fresh and fruity.


- Despite its youth in comparison with the historical producing regions in the European Continent, the Brazilian winegrowing industry has had great development in terms of technological innovation and grapevine handling in the last 15 years.

- Constant investments are made in the 40 thousand hectares used for grape growing in Brazil, distributed in six main regions: Serra Gaucha (including the Geographical Indication – G.I. – Vale dos Vinhedos, accounting for 90% of the production), Campanha, Serra do Sudeste and Campos de Cima da Serra, in Rio Grande do Sul; Planalto Catarinense, in Santa Catarina, and Vale do São Francisco, in northeastern Brazil.


- Grapes with excellent quality are harvested in each crop, resulting in products that have received 2,000 international awards. Sparkling wines made in Serra Gaucha are widely known for their lightness and freshness, and several red and white wines, for their complexity and diversity found between the traditional parallels 280 and 320 in the south and Vale do São Francisco (between 80 and 90), the largest grapevine region near Equator, with two annual harvests” states Andreia.
